In Front of Jesus
The Gospel accounts frequently mention stories of individuals encountering Jesus face to face. Some of those that encountered Jesus were believers, some were skeptics, and others were enemies. Some were sick, troubled or demon-possessed. Some were clueless and others were looking for hope. Some were amazed and stood in awe, while others criticized and mocked Him.
Have you ever considered what your reaction would be if you found yourself in front of Jesus? How would you react? Would you stand there dumbfounded and speechless? Would you fall on your face and worship Him? And if you mustered up the courage, what would you say to Him? “Hello Jesus,” sounds a little superficial, and I don’t think you would be satisfied talking with Him about the weather or a football game.
For me personally, I think I would ask Him what heaven is like. And I’d want to know what it was like being holy & divine while living in a physical world full of sin and wickedness. I might ask Him how He could be so forgiving to those that constantly criticized Him, denied who He said He was, betrayed Him, falsely accused Him, spat upon Him, nailed Him to the cross, and mocked Him.
There is no end to the questions or discussions that you or I might have with Him. And I would hope that you and I would fall all over ourselves trying to thank Him for coming to earth and giving His life that we could live eternally.
One day, we all will appear before Jesus (Matt. 25:31-46; Rom. 14:10-12; 2 Cor. 5:10; Rev. 20:12). But that will be a totally different setting, won’t it? That will be an occasion of judgment. How will you react then? What will you say? And, what will He say to you?
